The Chosen One! Week #1
Just before I begin to explain why this theme became the
chosen one, this is my first ever blog and I must admit it is a lot harder than
first thought. Immediately, when I think of anything to do with blogs, my mind
heads straight towards travel. I think this is mainly because I love travelling
and, secondly, these are the only blogs I have enjoyed reading the most.
Although extensive international travel may be off the cards for a little
while, I like the idea of reading and experiencing adventures vicariously,
whether it’s an adventure they have previously embarked upon, or an aspiration
on their bucket list.
So, when it came to choosing our own theme, I immediately
scrolled down to the 'Travel' section. When I look at travel images across
social media, I am immediately transported to a different destination. Perhaps
it is a country I have previously visited, or perhaps the picture sends my
imagination wild by trying to imagine the essence, the beauty, the people, and
culture at a destination I am yet to explore.
I originally chose a travel theme and then changed the
background picture to a campervan with a surfboard on the top. The colours were
fabulous, and to me, had a "chill San Diego vibe", which I liked for
obvious reasons. However, after fiddling around and trying to figure out
exactly what I wanted this blog to look like and how I wanted to reach my
audience, I added pictures, I removed pictures, I changed the background
colours, fonts, and size, I eventually decided it wasn't for me.
Which leads me to "The Chosen One" - Contempo
Aqua. The ocean, no matter where in the world, brings me such a calm, peaceful
and relaxing vibe. I love any kind of water and my whole life have been known
as a water baby, so it fits perfectly. Clearly, the ocean also plays a huge
part in any San Diegan's way of life, which meant I was able to embrace my San
Diego vibe I was originally aspiring for.
I also wanted to add a profile picture so people can relate
to the face behind the blog. I like putting a face to the name, especially in a
world that is so disconnected right now. So, this is me, Kate Strong, 32 years
old from England, UK and this is my first ever travel blog, I hope you enjoy!
Your blog entry was very easy to read! Before even reading what you wrote, your color choice was very calming. I think that you did a great job of giving it a "chill San Diego vibe." I have also always been a water baby. When I went to SDSU many of my days landed at the beach just relaxing and listening to the waves. I miss those days... I am not close to the ocean anymore and I work full-time and do online classes and don't have the time to travel. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynette! Well if you ever fancy a beach day then let me know, ill always be up for it :D
DeleteYour blog is amazing and you have done visited 57 countries in life. Background is also nice, I like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Yoshinori! I miss travelling, but hopefully it wont be too long until we can travel again!
DeleteI love the colors you chose. I grew up in and around the ocean so this theme really speaks to me. Travel is also one of the first things that would pop in my head when I would think of blogs before this assignment haha Thats super rad you've had the opportunity to travel so much. Looking forward to seeing more of your blog as the class progresses.
ReplyDeleteThanks Vincent! Jealous that you grew up near the ocean. In England there aren't many options for that, or at least not many that you can utilize the outdoors :D Look forward to reading more blogs in the group too!
DeleteYour eventual choice was my first choice (but then I just had to fancy things up). It's a peaceful and soothing theme and definitely matches well with a water baby. I too love the beach and live pretty close in Carlsbad. I've been in the area a while and would be glad to go on a beach day with you, letting you know some of what is special about each of the beaches I like.
ReplyDeleteI used to have the travel bug too and look forward to see what you write about. 57 countries is very impressive! I liked travel so much that I took most of the Travel Studies classes offered by the San Diego Community College District in the eighties. Cruising was my hobby back then and I went on seven.
Having to go on a lot of business trips post 9-11 has kind of cured me of the travel bug. So I enjoy other people's travel vicariously and look forward to seeing what you write about.
